Generous Maria - Electricism
This Sweden based band has been around since 1998 already, and although they are from Gothenburg, that is not the style of music they make. What they do make, well, read on and you’ll find out! And don’t let the name scare you of religious rock!

My first impression was that I was going to give this a pretty low grade, but I didn’t listen to it for a while then. So here I am sitting in the train home and I’ve played it twice in a row now. I can’t say I’m in love with it now, but if I said that it was bad I would be a fucking liar. Why? Because this band has quite an interesting approach to rock music, that’s why.

The album starts out with a riff that gives me a High on Fire feeling. And that is very very good. In average this band has a very grunge-like sound in the vein of Soundgarden, accompanied by a heavy stoner distortion. Slightly psychedelic guitar parts are also found a lot on this record, and some old-skool rock like for instance AC/DC and Mötley Crüe is also something these guys like to fabricate. Well that sums up some interesting influences doesn’t it?
Vocally my first impression was very much Chris Cornell, but as you listen more often you hear that this guys explores a lot of his capabilities, with some good results. He really grows on you, even though the Chris Cornell touch is present a lot (and I don’t mean the annoying whining Audioslave Chris, but the one that used to sing in Soundgarden).

But still, I have the feeling like not all the songs are on such a great level as others. It could be that it takes even more time to let the entire album be absorbed by your brain, or it could be that the songwriting wasn’t optimised. Nevertheless this is a potential band, and I’m quite curious to a live performance. Fans of bands mentioned above must certainly check this one out.
